Meet Streetsboro - Tonia Epple Streetsboro Board of Education Member

"Meet Streetsboro" was a series started by the Gateway News when the paper covered Streetsboro. Streetsboro News is bringing that series back in an effort to get to know the people who make Streetsboro a great place to live and work.

Our next person on the "Meet Streetsboro" series is Tonia Epple, who is a member of the Streetsboro Board of Education. Tonia was appointed in August of 2023 to fill a vacancy on the board. She was then elected in November of 2023 to a four year term.

What is your occupation?

Sr. Merchandising Analyst at TravelCenters of America

How long have you lived in Streetsboro?

15 years

Position elected to?

School Board

Why did you run for local office?

I ran for school board because I wanted to be a part of the decision making for the school district.

How long have you been in office?

About 5 months. I was appointed to the board in August to fill a vacant seat and was elected in November for a four year term.

What is the biggest thing you have accomplished in your position? (If you have already served)

Since August I have been learning and building relationships, building a good foundation for me in this role.

What's the biggest thing you want to see happen or accomplish during your upcoming term?

An issue close to my heart is early literacy. I would like to see the kids in our district be more accomplished with reading and comprehension during their formative years.

How would you describe Streetsboro to someone who has never been here?

Streetsboro is a relatively small, yet tight-knit community that supports its own.

What is your favorite thing about, or favorite thing to do in Streetsboro?

My favorite thing to do is attend sporting and musical events. The kids in our community are so talented and watching them thrive and succeed with something they love is a joy to watch.

Tell us about your family.

My husband Erik and I have been married for 22 years. We have 3 children; Meghan is 20 and currently attending Kent State majoring in Exercise Science to become a Physical Therapist. Our twins, Brett and Kendall just turned 16 and are sophomores at the high school. We also have 2 fur babies: a bengal cat named Sheldon and a lemon beagle named Brooklyn.

What are your hobbies?

I love spending time with my family & friends, taking pictures, and crafting.

Who do you admire the most? (Excluding relatives)

I admire Princess Diana because of the compassion that she had for everyone she encountered. She raised money to help those in need, brought attention to causes that needed attention, and was dedicated to her boys.

Interesting fact that most people don't know about you?

In high school, I played 7 musical instruments within the different bands my school had.

Look for future articles of the recently elected officials for the city and school!
