Meet Streetsboro - Sara Scott Streetsboro Board of Education Elect

"Meet Streetsboro" was a series started by the Gateway News when the paper covered Streetsboro. Streetsboro News is bringing that series back in an effort to get to know the people who make Streetsboro a great place to live and work.

Our next person on the "Meet Streetsboro" series is the soon to be Streetsboro Board of Education Member, Sara Scott. Sara was elected in the November 7th, 2023 general election and was an unopposed candidate. She takes over the remaining two years of the term that was vacated by the resignation of a former board of education member. Sara is one of four people who were recently reelected or newly elected to the Board of Education.

What is your occupation?

Sara is a registered nurse.

How long have you lived in Streetsboro?

Sara has been in Streetsboro for 20 years.

Position elected to?

Streetsboro Board of Education

Why did you run for local office?

I ran for school board to ensure our children continue to have forward progress supported by our district. To be sure all children have access to a positive supportive learning environment in our schools.

How long have you been in office?

Sara will be sworn in to office in January of 2024.

What is the biggest thing you have accomplished in your position? (If you have already served)

N/A as I haven't served yet. However, I have attended almost every board meeting & have spoken during open comments during a few. That experience of speaking & being heard, of seeing the board & administration in action, gave me some inspiration to be involved. Honestly the fact that my daughter has spoken at even more open comments and has had positive outcomes from concerns presented has inspired me even more so. To continue to represent in office & work to support progress is important to me. I do believe my attendance at board meetings has helped prepare me with some baseline knowledge of the district.

What's the biggest thing you want to see happen or accomplish during your upcoming term?

Continued forward momentum of positive learning & supportive inclusive schools. More communication from the district, sharing all the great things happening at our schools.

How would you describe Streetsboro to someone who has never been here?

A small town with dramatic growth over the years I’ve lived here. Supportive, kind community who want continued positive growth.

What is your favorite thing about, or favorite thing to do in Streetsboro?

Attending school functions; from band to sporting events. Enjoying the amazing friends we call family that we have met in Streetsboro. Oh and shopping at Target 😀

Tell us about your family.

I have been married to my partner in crime, who still makes me laugh, Bill, for 21 years, wild how fast it has gone by. Our children are 15 and 12 and are both involved in sports & music activities & love their friends fiercely. We also have dog named Kona.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy reading/listening to books, I’m in my fantasy era currently. I am very involved in the local Cleveland chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society, supporting the professional & personal growth of area oncology nurses is very rewarding & inspiring. I like to think I’m crafty, but am better off supporting local crafters than doing it myself.

Who do you admire the most? (Excluding relatives)

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Glennon Doyle, all cancer patients

Interesting fact that most people don't know about you?

When I was in high school, I was a member of a state champion flag team in 1996-1997.

Look for future articles of the recently elected officials for the city and school!
