35th Edition of the Turkey Bowl

Everyone has their holiday traditions. But one tradition in Streetsboro celebrated its 35th anniversary today. Back in the late 1980's, a few coaches from Crestwood High School started the Turkey Bowl, a friendly, two-hand touch football game. In 1994, Tom Hannan, coach of Crestwood football, from 1994-2009, along with his other coaches, kept the tradition alive. Knowing the old Crestwood-Streetsboro rivalry, the former players and coaches have invited alumni from both teams. The Turkey Bowl has grown into a game that not only keeps the tradition alive, but also keeps an old rivalry alive.

The teams are broken down to old guys vs. young guys. With the influx of recent talent from the local schools, the old guys were facing a long losing streak. However, that streak ended this year with a 20-18 victory over the young guys. This years game also featured one of the biggest turnouts in recent years, featuring 27 participants, ranging from ages 12-64.

If you ever want to see some action on Thanksgiving morning, drive on down to the old middle school field located across from the Streetsboro Library at 9:00am. You'll be guaranteed a good game and a few good laughs, as the old guys try to keep up with the young guys.
